Biogas Clapton was founded in 2012 by Günther J. Schulz, a pioneering figure in the biogas industry with over two decades of hands-on experience.
In the late 1980s, Günther established a CHP manufacturing business in Germany that grew into one of the world’s leading biogas CHP manufacturers — achieving €33 million in annual sales and employing over 170 people before being sold to a US investment group in 2008.
Since founding Biogas Clapton, we have successfully acquired, developed, and managed multiple anaerobic digestion plants across the UK, Germany, and Japan. Overt time, the focus has increasingly shifted towards bio-waste AD facilities, driven by technological advancements and a growing demand for circular economy solutions.
Today, we combine deep technical expertise with a proven commercial track record — operating our own plants while partnering with farmers, industrial operators, and energy suppliers to deliver profitable, sustainable biogas projects.
What sets us apart is simple: we are not consultants who advise from a distance. We are active investors and operators who optimise biogas assets daily. Every recommendation we make is grounded in real operational experience — from the digester floor to the energy trading desk.
Biogas Clapton was established by Günther J. Schulz, building on decades of prior industry experience
From agricultural operations and food processing to breweries, slaughterhouses, and wastewater treatment
Active plant operations and partnerships across the UK, Germany, and Japan
Typical return timeline from combined revenue streams: electricity, biomethane, digestate, and grid services
Guaranteed annual operational hours across all Biogas Clapton managed plants
Every input is converted into power, heat, or organic fertiliser — zero material loss
A world where no organic waste is wasted — energy independence and a circular economy for every operation.
We believe the transition to renewable energy doesn’t require exotic technology — it requires applying proven biological processes intelligently to the organic resources that already exist.
A farm that manages its manure, a food plant that handles its scraps, a brewery that disposes of its spent grains — each of these operations is already sitting on a continuous, weather-independent energy source.
Our vision is a future where every one of these waste streams is captured, converted, and returned as value: power for the grid, nutrients for the soil, and financial returns for the operator.
That future is already being built, one biogas plant at a time.

To transform organic waste into renewable energy and create sustainable value for agricultural and industrial partners.
Organic waste is one of the most underutilised resources in modern agriculture and industry.
Every tonne of feedstock that goes unprocessed represents lost energy, lost revenue, and an avoidable environmental burden.
Our mission is to change that — systematically, profitably, and at scale.
We work alongside farmers, food processors, and industrial operators. Together, we design and manage biogas systems that convert daily waste into continuous electricity, biomethane, heat, and premium organic fertiliser.
Not as a side project, but as a long-term operational commitment.

Operational expertise, financial transparency, and long-term commitment — here’s what sets us apart from standard biogas consultancies.
When biogas facilities underperform, we step in. Our plant acquisition and turnaround service means we’ve diagnosed and solved problems that competitors only read about in manuals.
Our team includes microbiology specialists who adjust feedstock ratios, trace elements, and retention times to maximise methane yield without third-party delays.
Before founding Biogas Clapton, our team built and sold CHP systems to operators across Europe. We’ve seen what fails in the field and engineered those lessons into every plant we deliver.
We negotiate direct contracts with utilities and traders on your behalf, protecting you from commodity market volatility with long-term, structured arrangements.
We deploy BESS for frequency regulation and demand response, turning your plant into a grid asset that earns premium revenues beyond simple electricity export.
We don’t just design and walk away. We act as financial partner, developer, and operator across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility study to daily plant management, with skin in the game at every stage.
Please do not hesitate to contact the team for a tailored consultation on designing, optimising or integrating BESS into your biogas plant.
